Amla Botanically known as Phyllanthus emblica from phyllanthaceae family. Common name are emblic, emblic myrobalan, anola, usirikai, Indian gooseberry & amla. It is a small to medium size deciduous tree.

The fruit is nearly spherical, light greenish-yellow, quite smooth and hard on appearance, with six vertical stripes or furrows. This tree also regarded as sacred tree in India. The amla fruit is eaten raw or cooked into various dishes. This also used to prepare dal (a lentil preparation) and  amla ka murrabbah a sweet dish made by soaking the berries in sugar syrup until they are candied. It is traditionally consumed after meals.

MAXIMUM HEIGHT – It can reach upto 25 Feet if planted in ground.

BLOOMING TIME – It blooms twice in a year in many parts of india in winter & summer, sometimes it vary based on climate of particular area.

FRUITING TIME – Edible fruiting will start from 1year after purchase.

SPECIAL FEATURE – This contain high amount of Vitamin C, used as Traditional Indian Medicine, All parts of the plant are used in various Ayurvedic medicine herbal preparations, including the fruit, seed, leaves, root, bark and flowers. Other than medicine it also commonly used in inks, shampoos and hair oils, the high tannin content of Indian gooseberry fruit serves as a mordant for fixing dyes in fabric.

PLANT CARE  

LIGHT CONDITION – More than 6  hours of Direct Sunlight.

WATERING SCHEDULE – Water when the top soil(2-3inch) feels dry to touch. Always maintain moisture near the root zone.

SOIL TYPE – The soil should be well drained, fertile & rich in organic content. Amla plant can grow in almost all type of soil.

FERTILIZER APPLICATION – Initially upto 1 year apply any organic fertilizer once in a month. After full establishment apply any organic fertilizer before the flowering season only.

PLANT PROTECTION – Generally it does’t affected by major pest so, apply Neem Oil if found any attack of insects & pest for primary treatment.

INITIAL CARE FOR 10-15 DAYS JUST AFTER RECEIVING YOUR PLANT 

  1. Remove the Packaging Materials carefully.
  2. Press the soil in the pot & add additional soil(garden mix) if necessary.
  3. Maintain moisture in the pot, Do not over water it may kill your plant, so make sure that the soil should be dry between watering.
  4. Provide support with stick/moss stick(vine plant) in order to make straight growth, for needed plant only.
  5. Make sure that plants get enough indirect bright light for 10-15 days & do not go for immediate transplanting(minimum 1-2 month)
  6. Just prune if any branch of the plant is get damaged in transist. It happens very rare.
  7. In case of Grafted Plant, if found any shoots arising from below the grafting portion then prune it immediately.
